I should be posting a pic of my newly scrubbed tub, but it wouldn't be as cute. This is from my daughter singing "Happy Birthday" to me at the end of my lovely birthday because she didn't think it was a real birthday if there wasn't cake with a candle lit and blown out with a song. (Candle is in a powdered donut.) I was fine without the usual formalities (I got to do lots of things I wanted to do.) But she wouldn't have it. :)
And now what I won't have is a semi-clean house. I want an all-clean, comfortable home. I scrubbed my tub and had to use some kind of chisel tool to get all the hard water soap scum build-up off. It's basically symbolic of my life. I'm getting rid of all the layers of excuses and weaknesses and whatever else has kept me from being my bright, clean, shiny self. So fantastic. I actually enjoy entering the bathroom and seeing the cleanliness around me.
Now for the walls baseboards around the house. :)

Our house.
Most days I am so grateful to have such a nice place to live and that we have so many comforts.
Other days, I think of the things we want to do-- remodel the kitchen, the bathrooms, new flooring, new paint, bigger deck, etc.
What I need to do first, though, is take better care of what I already have. Keep the floors clean. Wipe down walls and wood trim and doors. Wash windows. Dust. Stop leaving clutter (put things in proper places.) Be organized.
Then when it's time to do the upgrades, I will be more likely to keep it nice and new and inviting.
P.S.- Is there any way to resurrect a toilet bowl that seems forever stained?
Yours truly. :)
One thing at a time...

So we finally got around to painting our front door. I realize it's kind of a trend, but we had been wanting to cover up the dirty white door for quite some time. The funny thing is my husband decided to be resourceful and use some leftover engine spray paint. He used all the paint and then asked me if we needed to go buy some more so we could fill it in solid. My first impression was that it was fun and different...and that perhaps it had the effect of light clouds in a blue sky or shimmering water. So it stayed just how it ended up with the leftover spray paint. Works for me. :)

As for the inside of our home, the weeks when I stay on top of household chores and weeks when I don't seem to ebb and flow. Overall, though, I've been doing pretty well. I just have to start DOING and then it somehow gets done. None of this "thinking about it" stuff. It really just takes me deciding to start, and then it takes care of itself. Of course it's not always fun or what I feel like doing at the moment...yet I always feel much better afterward. It's mostly the usual upkeep....laundry, dishes/kitchen, vacuuming, tidiness on floors and surfaces (I am a habitual set-it-down-to-pick-it-up-later kind of person), bathrooms, etc. I won't talk about my craft room at the moment, because it is back in an unfortunate state for the time being....but that will change. :) I still have to get something in the action package for deep cleaning. There is plenty to do as far as wiping walls and doors and molding and windows. I'll let you know if that ever materializes. :)
The AFTER Pic!!
January 2, 2015
I did it!! By November 7th I finally organized and cleaned my craft room! It still needs a little help because I could probably get rid of some things...but it's so much better! To be honest, I have struggled in the past couple weeks to keep it free from clutter because of lots of projects I've had...but it shouldn't take me much to get back on track because of how things are organized. SO nice!
I've also been doing much better at taking care of things around the house in general. Instead of putting things off, I just take care of it right away. I might not feel like doing things at the time, but if I just DO it instead of thinking about it--then it's taken care of. :)
Some products I have come upon that have helped include Norwex microfiber cleaning cloths. I'm still in the experimental stage, but so far so good! I started out with 3 basic items-- an envirocloth (to clean any surfaces...I'm specifically using it for my bathrooms), a window cloth, and a dusting mitt. These all have made things a bit easier to do some cleaning. Eventually I will purchase more cloths for my kitchen and other areas, but I like the fact that I don't have to work with harsh chemicals and that the technology of the fabric (infused with silver) picks up all the yucky stuff.
Here is a link to my friend's website to learn more. :)
It is so nice to feel a little more on top of things. To have a clean, inviting, clutter-free home is a simple joy and so worth the effort! :)

Anyone have this problem?...
So this is revealing something I'm quite embarrassed about. As mentioned earlier, I do a fairly decent job at keeping our home clean and somewhat organized. But when it comes to my craft room....it's a different ball game. This is the bane of my existence. I've re-organized a few times, made it tidy quite a few times, yet it always gets back to this-- madness. But I'm going to tackle it. I really am. I think I'll be feeling tons better about life when this part of it gets taken care of. It's always in the back of my mind. I see those doors, and I open them and I just shrug my shoulders and sigh. I know part of it is just getting rid of things. And the other part is having a better system in place so there's no reason to get back to this level of awfulness. I'm open to ideas and suggestions. Whatever the case, I'm giving myself a month from now to have it taken care of. I'm looking forward to posting the after pic. :)

FAMILY LIVING
"Only the home can compare with the temple in sacredness."
So the Family Life category--
This is to help me focus on making our home a better place. Starting in the cleanliness and tidiness area. It's not that our home is filthy or anything like that. I keep up fairly well with vacuuming, dishes/kitchen, bathroom cleaning, laundry-- the basics. But that's pretty much the extent of my efforts. The basics.
I want to be better and more thorough in cleaning. Doing certain things throughout the year more often -- wiping down walls and doors, vacuuming under and behind and in corners, doing my least-favorite thing = scrubbing the tub. Maybe these things aren't super important in lots of ways-- but again, I'm working towards being more and better overall.
I really want to try to keep the clutter away. I have a natural tendency to leave things places and then just shift them around. A lot of taking care of this is me just being organized and doing things right away instead of waiting until later. Being smarter, and using my time more wisely.
The second phase will be home decor. But for now, I'll work towards getting my house as clean as a temple might be. :)
